It’s good to have Colemak on iPad and iPhone with iOS 12. It’s easy to change the keyboard layout for the on-screen keyboard but Colemak practically used with a physical keyboard which is connected via Bluetooth.
For this kind of need, Android make an early move, and iOS left behind for a few years. Finally, Apple makes it available on iOS. Here it is.
Step 1: Connect your Bluetooth keyboard.
Tap on Settings > Bluetooth > My Devices, then tap on your Bluetooth keyboard.
Step 2: Back to Settings. Then General > Keyboard > Keyboards > Add New Keyboard… Then select English (United States). You will have three option QWERTY, AZERTY, and QWERTZ but it’s only for the on-screen keyboard. If you like to use Colemak on both, the on-screen keyboard and physical keyboard, you may install Fleksy keyboard.
Step 3 : Enable Colemak for physical keyboard
Back to Settings > General > Keyboard > Hardware Keyboad > English (United States) > Colemak.
Note: If you choose English (UK) on Step 2, you will not found this Colemak.
All the best and enjoy Colemak on iPad. Just in time, Apple adds this Colemak while Colemak lover in dilemma to jailbreak their iPad or jump to Android tablet. Thank you.
